The Verax Platelet PGD test is being developed as the first practical post-storage test for the QC testing of platelets for bacterial contamination. It is designed to be sensitive, simple, rapid and practical for use in the hospital transfusion service setting, providing results in approximately 30 minutes.
By testing closer to the time of transfusion, the Platelet PGD Test offers the opportunity to avoid false negatives attributable to pre-storage testing, closing the window on those units which might pose a serious contamination risk.
